DESIGN CHALLENGE
Plenty of nutritional and wellness applications are available, but few focus on nutrition and cooking beyond calorie counting and weight loss. As university students, having a consistent and healthy diet is a common challenge, so this is where Zest began. Our goal is to empower users to achieve health goals through healthy eating habits, setting people up for success now and in the future.

DESIGN SOLUTION
IDEATE: DEFINE MISSION, VISION, AND BRAND
We understand that food is personal. That’s why our brand works to evoke a natural and organic presence.
Mission: Zest builds a personalized experience to promote holistic wellness through empathy and empowerment. We create a supportive, energized space to increase nutritional fluency and build sustainable practices in your life.
Vision: We envision a long-lasting nourished life to be accessible for all individuals through quality recipes and nutrient suggestions. In doing so, we hope to create a community that inspires you to love your mind and body every day.
RESEARCH: BENCHMARKING AND INTERVIEWS
My team conducted a case study analysis of similar applications, a comprehensive survey, ethnographic interviews, literature reviews, and nutritional data analysis.
To create a human-centered and individualized experience for users, this involved a large research process. This research formed the basis of our personas, information architecture, and in-app features.
“I want to cook more for myself, especially meal prep. Because I don’t have a lot of time to spend cooking two to three times a day”
RESEARCH: USER INTERVIEWS
Based on our user interviews, we gained the insights that users care about having a variety of recipes that keep them engaged, a way of staying accountable for their eating habits, and that they value having a focus on overall wellness as opposed to physique.
